Why Coconut Called Tree Of Life?

The coconut tree, also named as Cocos Nucifera L., is known to many as the symbolic tree of life. The term itself is commonly known to residents of tropical countries such as Thailand, Philippines and Spain. Why exactly is the coconut tree referred to as the tree of life? Well, the answer is simple. Basically, all parts of the coconut tree has its own use, can be made into a product and by-product depending on the part harvested. Do you need food, shelter or fuel? You name it, and the coconut tree can provide it. Listed below is a breakdown of the different parts of a coconut tree and its numerous uses and purpose:

1. The coconut fruit is commonly used as the main ingredient for various sweets and pastries such as a coconut pie and coconut jelly. Oil can also be derived from the fruit. It is collected through means of drying the fruit and later on crushing and milking it until the oil leaks out. The coconut oil is said to be very good for the human body and has regenerative properties as well. Some soaps and shampoos also contain coconut oil.

2. The coconut water is very refreshing to drink during hot summer days and it is very effective in quenching one’s thirst. A recent study also shows that the coconut water also serves as a diuretic, making it helpful for person’s with kidney problems.

3. The coconut husk and root is tenacious thus making it ideal to use for the production of ropes, mattresses, carpets and mats.

4. The coconut shell is something that creative and crafty persons would want to take a hold of. The shell can be fashioned into charms applied in necklaces, bracelets, earrings and sometimes it can be strung together and hung on windows to serve as a wind chime.

5. The coconut leaves are often used to create good quality paper and waste baskets. The items made from the coconut leaves are not only aesthetically pleasing but durable as well.

All in all, the coconut tree has so many uses that it is progressively used by different countries as one of their main exported product. It is not surprising that so many people rely on it. A man can live comfortably as long as he owns a coconut tree. With the endless list of its uses, he will be able to support himself. It truly is the “tree of life”.
